10 Outdated Items Men Over 30 Should REPLACE Now!

November 9, 2025
When upgrading your wardrobe, where do you start, and what should you prioritize? You should mature stylistically as a man, so there are 12 items to upgrade first.

As a man matures stylistically and chronologically, systematically upgrade specific items in your wardrobe to always look amazing. Make sure your wardrobe is versatile and will last 10 to 20 years. Stick with classic colors without patterns, and clothes that fit.

Remember that a proper wardrobe is built and not bought—upgrade piece by piece. Stick with classic colors and nothing too trendy. Over time, you will create a fantastic wardrobe and always look epically sexy.

  1. Suits. Suits separate men from boys. You don’t need 10 suits — one is essential, but two are ideal. It should be non-synthetic without super-thin lapels. Go with a two-button notch lapel with a double vent. Go with flat rather than pleats. Make sure the legs are slightly tapered, and choose either navy blue or charcoal.
  2. Sneakers. Minimal white leather sneakers are a must rather than running or athletic shoes. Even when dressing casually, there’s a difference between wearing gym shoes and minimal light white leather sneakers.
  3. Denim. Make sure your jeans aren’t super big or baggy. Also, they shouldn’t be too long (you’ll look short). Make sure the crotch isn’t too long either. Dark wash is a bit dressier, while light washes are a bit more spring- or summer-oriented. A medium wash without distressing is what you should choose—a classic, staple denim you can wear casually, but also dress up with loafers or dress shoes.
  4. Dress shoes. They should have a cleaner and more minimal aesthetic. Go for a monk strap or a double monk strap —shoes you can wear with a suit, slacks, or chinos. Make sure you buy leather and not fake leather. Brown is a superior color to black because it offers a richer, more luxurious aesthetic that makes your outfit look more refined.
  5. Sweaters. Don’t rock an oversized, bulky sweater. Cotton sweaters look cheap; upgrade them to Merino wool. Check out some of the combinations that I demonstrate in the video.
  6. Polo shirts. Don’t rock a little boy polo.
  7. Khaki pants and chinos. Tan is a great color, but better options, such as navy blue, green, black, and light gray, will set you apart from other men. Go with a flat front, as it’s cleaner and will not make you look pear-shaped. Make sure your crotch is not too long either, and make sure your pockets don’t open like I demonstrate. Have your pants tailored.
  8. T-Shirts. Do not wear cheap graphic t-shirts. Upgrade to a crew neck without pockets (too casual). A pocketless crew neck is more versatile and can be dressed up.
  9. Accessories. Sunglasses, watches, and wallets can make you look cheap or mature; they are a great equalizer. Accessorizing properly can make you look 10 times better. With bracelets, go with one. Ditch a tech watch and get something proper that doesn’t have to be expensive. With rings, wear one per hand, not on the thumb or pinky. And with sunglasses, opt for a classic style like a Wayfarer, Aviator, or Clubmaster. Wallets should not be too bulky or have Velcro. Opt for a slim, minimalist wallet with a clean aesthetic. Stop wearing hats so much; if you’re wearing one backwards, you look youthful. Make sure your hat’s clean and doesn’t stink or smell like ass.
  10. Button-up shirts. Make sure it’s not big and boxy. Tuck it in and make sure there’s no puddling around your midsection, appearing like a can of exploded biscuits.
